Issued: Wednesday, July 29, 9:07 pm PDT
Expires: Thursday, July 30, 8:00 pm PDT

FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR THE MOUNTAINS, ANTELOPE VALLEY, AND CUYAMA VALLEY FOR THURSDAY.

A SIGNIFICANT SURGE OF MONSOON MOISTURE COMBINED WITH AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE AND INSTABILITY WILL BRING A THREAT OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TO THE REGION ON THURSDAY.

INITIALLY, THE THREAT OF THUNDERSTORMS WILL BEGIN ACROSS LOS ANGELES COUNTY EARLY THURSDAY MORNING, SPREADING INTO VENTURA AND SANTA BARBARA COUNTIES THROUGH THE DAY.

DUE TO THE DEEP MOISTURE, ANY STORMS THAT DEVELOP WILL BRING THE POTENTIAL FOR HEAVY RAINFALL WITH FLASH FLOODING.

FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM PDT THURSDAY THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LOS ANGELES/OXNARD HAS ISSUED A * FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR A PORTION OF SOUTHWEST CALIFORNIA.

INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS, ANTELOPE VALLEY, AND LOS ANGELES COUNTY MOUNTAINS INCLUDING THE PINES BURN AREA.

* FROM 6 AM PDT THURSDAY THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING.

* STRONGER OR SLOWER MOVING THUNDERSTORM WILL POTENTIALLY BRING RAINFALL RATES OF 1 TO 2 INCHES OR GREATER PER HOUR.

THIS COULD LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING, DEBRIS FLOWS, AND ROCKSLIDES ACROSS THE WARNING AREA.

IMPACTS:
NORMALLY DRY WASHES AND ARROYOS COULD RISE QUICKLY LEADING TO FLASH FLOODING DOWNSTREAM.

ROADS COULD BE CLOSED DUE TO WATER FLOWING OVER THEM AS WELL AS MUD AND ROCKS WASHING ONTO THEM.

THE RECENT PINES BURN AREA COULD SEE DEBRIS FLOWS IF IMPACTED BY THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY.
