WINTRY WEATHER THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT WITH LOW SNOW LEVELS IMPACTING MOUNTAIN PASSES.

A COLD LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL MOVE INTO THE AREA TONIGHT AND LINGER THROUGH MONDAY MORNING.

SHOWER ACTIVITY WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS TONIGHT, THEN SHOWERS WILL PERSIST INTO SUNDAY NIGHT BEFORE DECREASING.

THERE IS A SLIGHT CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING, SOME OF WHICH MAY PRODUCE SMALL HAIL.

SNOW LEVELS WILL LOWER TO 3500 TO 4000 FEET LATER TONIGHT OR EARLY SUNDAY AND CONTINUE AT THOSE LEVELS INTO SUNDAY NIGHT.

SNOW LEVELS COULD OCCASIONALLY DROP TO BELOW 3500 FEET IN HEAVIER SHOWER ACTIVITY SUNDAY AND EARLY SUNDAY NIGHT.

SNOW TOTALS WILL BE QUITE VARIABLE DUE TO THE SHOWERY NATURE OF THE PRECIPITATION.

HOWEVER, ON AVERAGE, EXPECT 4 TO 8 INCHES OF SNOW BETWEEN 5000 AND 6500 FEET, WITH 8 TO 12 INCHES OF SNOW ABOVE 6500 FEET, AND 2 TO 5 INCHES OF SNOW BETWEEN 4000 AND 5000 FEET.

LOCAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS UP TO 18 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE, MAINLY ACROSS THE SAN GABRIEL MOUNTAINS AND THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF VENTURA COUNTY.

PEOPLE PLANNING TRAVEL INTO OR THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS SHOULD BE AWARE OF THE POTENTIAL FOR DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS AND SHOULD CHECK ROAD CONDITIONS BEFORE DEPARTING.

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM PST MONDAY.

LOCATIONS:
THE MOUNTAINS OF VENTURA AND LOS ANGELES COUNTIES EXCLUDING THE SANTA MONICA RANGE.

* HAZARD TYPES, SNOW, BLOWING SNOW, POOR VISIBILITIES.

ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS WITH SMALL HAIL.

* ACCUMULATIONS, SNOWFALL TOTALS OF 8 TO 12 INCHES ARE EXPECTED ABOVE 6500 FEET, WITH 4 TO 8 INCHES BETWEEN 5000 AND 6500 FEET.

AND 2 TO 5 INCHES BETWEEN 4000 AND 5000 FEET.

LOCAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 2 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE AT ELEVATIONS AS LOW AS 3500 FEET, MAINLY SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT.

LOCAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS UP TO 18 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE IN THE SAN GABRIEL MOUNTAINS AND ON THE HIGHER PEAKS OF NORTHERN VENTURA COUNTY.

* TIMING AND SNOW LEVELS, SHOWERS WILL INCREASE OVERNIGHT, THEN CONTINUE THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT BEFORE TAPERING OFF TO SCATTERED SHOWERS LATE.

SNOW LEVELS AROUND 5000 FEET WILL LOWER TO BETWEEN 3500 AND 4000 FEET BY LATE TONIGHT OR EARLY SUNDAY, AND CONTINUE AT THOSE LEVELS THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT.

IMPACTS:
SNOW WILL LIKELY AFFECT TRAVEL ON THE HIGHER MOUNTAIN PASSES, INCLUDING MAJOR ROUTES SUCH AS INTERSTATE 5 NEAR THE GRAPEVINE, STATE ROUTE 2 IN LOS ANGELES COUNTY, AND HIGHWAY 33 IN VENTURA COUNTY.

CHAINS MAY BECOME A REQUIREMENT THIS WEEKEND.
